Area cross country teams advanced from regional action to sectionals after competition Saturday.

In the Class 1A Fairfield Regional, Newton, Cumberland, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Dieterich advanced as teams while two Teutopolis runners will compete in boys action.

In the girls regional, Effingham St. Anthony, Newton, Neoga, Dieterich and Teutopolis advanced as teams while an Altamont runner will compete at sectionals.

Newton won the team championship of the boys meet with 57 points followed by Cumberland 87, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 88, Fairfield 99, Webber Township (Bluford) 109, Robinson 124, Dieterich 179, Teutopolis 209, Greenville 211 and Altamont 258.

Jaxon Dalby of Webber Township won the individual championship with a time of 17:29.2.

In the top 10 from around the area were Cameron Roedl (Cumberland) third in 17:44.1, August Cosart (CHBC) sixth in 18:22.3, Luke Weber (Newton) seventh in 18:31.7, Riley Morgan of Cumberland ninth in 18:46.9 and Brock Probst of Newton 10th in 18:45.8.

Other members of the champion Newton squad were Hayden Borgic 12th in 19:28.1, Isaac Street 13th in 19:33.1, Jackson Sornberger 15th in 19:44.3, Tanner Whitaker 18th in 19:57.3 and Wade Ochs 32nd in 20:44.1.

Advancing as individuals were Michael Wilson of Greenville eighth in 18:44.8, Eli Richards of Casey-Westfield 30th in 20:40.1 and Jackson High 33rd in 20:44.7 and T-town's James Hughey 38th in 21:17.3 and Nicholas Waldhoff 40th in 21:30.2.

In the girls meet, Robinson was the team champion with 41 points followed by St. Anthony 51, Fairfield 58, Newton 102, Neoga 122, Dieterich 135 and Teutopolis 166. All seven teams advance to sectionals.

St. Anthony's Isabella Keller won the individual championship with a time of 18:27.9 while teammate Aubrey Denning was second in 21:11.5 and Stacie Vonderheide fourth in 21:51.4.

Newton's Layna Marshall finished sixth in 22:00.7

The top seven teams and the top five runners, not members of those teams advance to sectional action.

Individuals advancing were Kyndall Sturgeon (Odin) eighth in 22:31.8, Kayla Clark (Casey-Westfield) ninth in 22:34.6, Katrina Campbell (Greenville) 16th in 23:46.8, Alexis Johnston (Webber Township) 19th in 24:06.7 and Altamont's Krista Hall 20th in 24:26.8.

At Olney

Effingham and North Clay (Louisville) competed in the Class 2A Olney (Richland County) Regional Saturday.

In the girls meet, Champaign Centennial won with 42 points followed by Effingham 64, Richland County 89, Champaign Central 94, Urbana 106, Mount Vernon 195, Marion 196, Salem 203, Charleston 211 and Mattoon 241.

Centennial, Effingham, Richland County, Champaign Central, Urbana, Mount Vernon and Marion advance as teams.

Champaign Centennial's Brooklynn Sweikar won the regional with a time of 18:51.78.

Effingham's Jessica Larsen finished fifth in 19:14.60 while Baylee Summers captured seventh in 19:31.19. Also scoring for the Hearts were Drew Weis 16th in 20:44.47; Morgan Springer 17th in 20:44.68 and Audrey Wagoner 19th in 20:46.49.

Advancing as individuals were Mattoon's Symphany Allen 24th in 21:05.89, Salem's Breanna Thurman 26th in 21:08.10 and Maci Thorsen 27th in 21:17.50; Charleston's Samantha Fehrenbacher 31st in 21:43.23 and Herrin's Piper Price 36th in 22:01.10.

In the boys meet, teams advancing were Marion 31, Mount Vernon 69, Champaign Central 99, Urbana 109, Herrin 117, Salem 178 and Effingham 181. Also competing were  Charleston 197, Richland County 260, Champaign Centennial 273, North Clay (Louisville) 311 and Mattoon 320.

Winning the individual championship was Marion's Dylon Nalley in 14:33.4.

Effingham team members were Alex Gordon eighth in 16:28.03, Adam Flack 29th in 17:20.83, Aaron Hill 37th in 17:47.57; Ino Mapes 46th in 18:19.61 and Evan Klingler 64th in 19:53.78.

Advancing as individuals were North Clay's Zane Groves 41st in 17:59.50, Charleston's Blake Homann 11th in 16:35.98 and Gunner Barr 34th in 17:38.26, Olney's Kaeden Davis 32nd in 17:34.61 and Champaign Centennial's Josh Hooper 22nd in 17:11.38.
