The Dieterich school board Monday hired retired administrator Mike McCollum as interim junior/senior high school principal. McCollum fills a vacancy created when Scott Kocher resigned last month.

McCollum served as a teacher and coach at Dieterich for several years before moving to the Effingham Unit 40 school district where he served as high school principal until his retirement.

Also Monday, the Dieterich board heard from Dieterich Village Clerk and Economic Development Director Brittny Gipson. Gipson thanked the school board for their continued support of community development in Dieterich. She highlighted the need for cooperation and working together for the benefit of all.

The Board chose Dieterich Bank to be the primary depository for District funds; purchased 20 dance uniforms for $5,460.50; hired Tonya Tegeler as a paraprofessional; hired Shawn Lotz as head high school baseball coach; established the substitute teacher pay rate of $140/day, and $160/day for Dieterich retired teachers.

Dieterich Superintendent Cary Jackson reviewed options for a school stakeholder survey, and learned that Chris Greuel with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office will be the new Student Resource Officer at Dieterich schools.
