Dieterich and Windsor/Stew-Stras were the Wednesday winners at the 83rd Annual National Trail Conference Tournament. The Movin Maroons downed South Central 59-50, while WSS beat St. Elmo/Brownstown 46-30. Both games were heard on 979XFM and video and audio streamed live on www.979xfm.com

DIETERICH 59, SOUTH CENTRAL 50

The third quarter was big in this game. Dieterich held a 15-11 lead after one quarter, but the Maroons scored just five points in the second quarter and found themselves tied with the Cougars 20-20 at halftime.

Dieterich came out fired up to start the second half, though, outscoring South Central 21-10 in the third quarter to lead by 11, 41-30. South Central outpointed Dieterich 20-18 in the final quarter, but the damage was done and Dieterich had the nine-point win.

Dieterich made 46% of its shots, 24 of 52 including 2 of 13 threes. South Central hit 20 of 50 shots, 40%, including 4 of 16 threes. Dieterich made 9 of 14 foul shots, while South Central made 6 of 7. Turnovers were fairly even; Dieterich with 11, South Central with 9. The big difference was in rebounding; Dieterich outboarded the Cougars 37 to 19. Those second chance shots were a big advantage for Dieterich.

Ryan Radloff hit seven of his last eight shots to finish with 24 points and 8 rebounds to lead Dieterich. Callaway Campton scored 19 points, 14 in the second half, with 10 rebounds. Devin Flach scored nine points with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Tyler Higgs scored 7 points, but grabbed 11 rebounds.

For South Central, Trent Geiler, held to two points in the first half, finished with 20 points, along with 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Logan Lotz was in double figures with 12 points, Hunter Brandt scored 5 points, Ryan McCown and Ryan Matheny 4 points each, Ean Fox 3 points, and Cauy Blomberg scored 2 points.

Dieterich improved to 14-5, while South Central slipped to 8-11.

WINDSOR/STEW-STRAS 46, ST. ELMO/BROWNSTOWN 30

SEB just had a terrible shooting night, making just 10 of 46 shots for 22% including 1 of 18 threes. WSS, meanwhile, made 19 of 41 shots for 46% including 1 of 7 threes. SEB made 9 of 11 foul shots, while WSS made just 7 of 14. Each team committed 10 turnovers, and WSS had a 30-24 rebound edge.

WSS led 13-9 after one quarter. Each team scored just six second quarter points to leave WSS with a 19-15 halftime lead. An 11-9 third quarter edge left WSS with a 30-24 lead. The fourth quarter was the difference, WSS outscoring SEB 16-6 to win by 16 points. There was a telling time in the second half when WSS was up by 15 points, but SEB stormed back to within four. However, the Hatchets regrouped and pushed the lead back to as much as 18 before winning by 16.

Chase Thies led WSS with 16 points and Christian Kessler was in double figures with 13 points. Gavin Bennett scored 9 points and Isaac Kramer scored 8 points.

Andy Goldsborough led SEB with 12 points, while Lewis Brown and Isaac Maxey each scored 7 points, and Nate Philpot and Rocky Himes each scored 2 points.

The loss left SEB with a 12-6 record, while WSS is back over .500 at 9-8.
