PLEASE HELP! We have had several issues with cars passing stopped school buses in our parking lot, as they are loading/unloading students. PLEASE DO NOT PASS A STOPPED SCHOOL BUS! A ticket for failing to stop for a school bus can be expensive and suspend your driver’s license. The law is written in the Illinois Vehicle Code at 625 ILCS 5/11-1414. Illinois Vehicle Code at 625 ILCS 5/11-1414 The law provides that all vehicles must come to a complete stop for a school bus that is loading or unloading child passengers. The school bus must display a flashing stop sign and comply with various other requirements. Motorists are not required to stop for a school bus where the bus is stopped on a four-lane highway, if there are at least two lanes traveling in the opposite direction. But the only vehicles that are permitted to continue driving past the school bus must be on the opposite two lanes of the road. The offense is not criminal. A ticket for passing or overtaking a school bus is a petty offense. The penalty used to be a fine of $150 on the first offense and $500 on the second offense. But starting in 2020, the penalty increased to a fine of $300 on the first offense and $1,000 on the second or subsequent offense. The important issue for these tickets is that a conviction for this offense will cause the Secretary of State to suspend your driver’s license for a period of three months. A second conviction will cause the Secretary of State to suspend your driver’s license for one year. Though you may be eligible for a restricted driving permit during the suspension period (e.g., a hardship license allowing you to drive to and from work).

Due to a water line break Beecher City has no water and cannot host the JH Girls 8th Grade Basketball NTC Tournament at Beecher City tonight. The tournament has been moved to Cowden Herrick.

There will be an American Red Cross blood drive today in the school cafeteria from 2:00-6:00. All units help DHS earn scholarship money.

With the cooler weather, our lost and found has grown quite a bit. Please have your child look thru and claim any items belonging to them. Any items that are not claimed will be donated to a non-profit organization. Please label your child's clothing, jackets, lunch boxes, etc. Thank you!

HS BASEBALL FIELD CLOSED. The HS baseball field is CLOSED until further notice. Thank you for your cooperation.

Reminder: If you are wanting to know ANYTHING concerning Dieterich athletics make sure you are looking at the EVENTLINK app or going from our school webpage and selecting the athletics icon to be taken to Eventlink. Eventlink is updated live so is the most up-to-date information possible. Looking at the events section on the main webpage may be outdated leading to discrepancies and confusion. Example: Meet the Maroons is FRIDAY November 15th. It is correct on Eventlink but incorrect on the events in thrillshare (school app) where it shows it on the 14th. We are working to get this resolved with thrillshare but Eventlink will always have the most accurate athletic information.

There is a Soup & Sandwich Supper for Bree Hilliard to help with medical expenses on Friday, October 25, 2024, 5:30-8:00 at the Dieterich Park. Local Modern Woodmen of America members are sponsoring this fundraiser and will match up to $2500. Their flyer is attached.

Reminder the Maroon Platoon shirt order deadline is tomorrow, October 9th. Students wearing the shirts will get free admission to regular season games and the proceeds help cover the cost of the items thrown at games from starting lineups at all high school indoor games and during the varsity boys basketball games. Go Maroons!

If you are wanting to be a Sportsbacker member and have your name or business in the program please register by Friday September 27th. After this date you can still join but you will not printed in the sports programs. The membership form is attached. Please consider joining, the Sportsbackers are a huge help to our athletic/extracurricular programs.

The JH Softball sectional at Kinmundy has been delayed 1 hour. Dieterich will now play South Central at 1:00.

The HS Baseball tournament at North Clay has been delayed 1 hour due to last night's rain. The tournament will begin with Dieterich playing North Clay at 10:00.

This year Post Prom will be selling tickets for Meat/Money raffle. You have a chance to win all year long in 2025! Starting January each Sunday and holiday there will be a drawing, if your name is pulled out it will go back into the drawing for another chance to win!! We will be selling only 1500 tickets, so look for us at upcoming events or contact a Junior or Senior. Tickets are $20 each.
