She was presented with a $75 check from Mike Esker from the Effingham Elks Lodge for her winning essay on the topic "What Does Service to Your Country Mean To You?" Dieterich FFA member, sophomore, Weston Goebel, was recently named the High Individual Overall at the Illinois Association FFA State Poultry Evaluation CDE. Weston is the son of Greg and Krystal Goebel.
Weston and his teammates traveled to the University of Illinois on Saturday, March 7th for competition and Goebel walked away 1st Overall out of 138 competitors and 33 teams from across the state. This is the first time in Dieterich School history that a member from our chapter achieved these honors at State Poultry. Competitors were tasked with evaluating live production birds, ready to cook carcass grading, exterior egg grading/defects identification, interior egg grading, parts identification, bone-in and boneless product grading, and a 25-question test. As a team, Dieterich FFA ended with a superior rating of 5th Overall with only 22 points separating them from the high team overall. Team members included Weston Goebel, Taylor Koester, Eli Niemerg, Skylar Russell, & Kinley Will. Weston will be recognized for this accomplishment in June at Illinois Association FFA State Convention where he will take the stage in front of thousands of FFA members to be recognized and receive his plaque. Great job Weston and team representing Dieterich FFA and Dieterich Unit #30!

We would like to send out a big thank you to Kyle Heuerman with Team Radical. Seven students wrote persuasive letters explaining why hunting should be added as a subject to their classroom. Today, they got a great lesson on how hunting can become a career. They also learned about the dedication, education, training, and hard work it took for Kyle to take down the Alaskan moose he brought into the classroom.
