I can't tell you how proud I am of our outstanding staff at Dieterich Schools! Everyone stepped up and got the job done to provide opportunities for our students. Instead of complaints, I heard "how can help?". We are very lucky to have this great staff at our school! Great Job!

March 16, 2020 Dear Parents & Guardians, Below is updated information regarding our mandated school closure. I hope you find this information informative and comprehensive. If you do have additional questions not contained in this document, please contact the Unit Office at 925-5249. We are here to help. • The mandated closure is tentatively scheduled to end on Tuesday, March 31st. That would be our first day back. • All days missed will NOT be made up. Additionally, we are NOT required to use Emergency Day’s for this closure. Therefore, the last day of school for students will be Thursday, May 21st. • The school will be open daily 8:00am – 3:00pm (M-F) for students to retrieve personal items or educational materials. Please come to the unit office located through Door #1 on Pine Street. • ALL students can receive FREE breakfast and lunch (per Illinois State Board of Education). Our buses will be running their regular evening routes on Tuesday, March 17th. We will deliver the Educational Packets and meals at that time. Please meet the bus at your stop at the regular time. A staff member will meet with you to determine if you would like meals and if you can meet us or would need home delivery. There will be centralized spots within the community to meet school staff with meals. More information will be shared very soon regarding times and locations. • Students NOT assigned to a bus route can pick up their Educational Packets at the Unit Office (Door #1). • Teachers will be in contact with students and parents throughout this closure. We will be supporting our students with additional information and offering assistance as needed. • Reminder: The educational packets are meant to keep your child in an educational mindset and make for a smoother transition back into the classroom. No grades will be taken. • Please watch Facebook, mobile app and website for updated information as it becomes available. In education, we try to always find the positive in every situation. While this closure has caused multiple challenges, the positive is our families now get the gift of time together. I would encourage everyone to spend quality time with your family – it is a gift! As always, we are here to help. If there is anything our school can do to assist our students, please let us know. Sincerely, Mr. Cary Jackson, Superintendent

School will be in session on Monday, March 16th. There will be no school Tuesday, March 17th - Monday, March 30th. School is scheduled to resume Tuesday, March 31st. Today, Friday, March 13th, each student was sent home with an e-learning packet. This packet is intended to take the student a few days to complete. On Monday, March 16th, another e-learning packet will be sent home with each student. That packet is expected to take the student through the additional days of closure. This package will not impact the students grade, but is meant to keep your student in an educational mindset. As well, if you have internet access, please watch for communication from your student’s teacher. They may be sending activities for the students sporadically. All activities at the school will be rescheduled or canceled. These activities include: • All spring sport activities (High School Baseball, High School Softball, and Junior High Scholar Bowl) including games and practices will be suspended through the duration of the closure. • Spring Pictures originally scheduled March 17th will be rescheduled at a later date. • The 8th Grade Class trip originally scheduled for March 18th will be rescheduled at a later date. • Family Night for the elementary students originally scheduled for March 23rd is postponed until further notice. • The Junior class SAT Test originally scheduled for March 25th will be rescheduled at a later date. • The Junior High Sports Banquet originally scheduled for March 30th will be rescheduled at a later date. • The Preschool and Kindergarten Screenings originally scheduled for March 30th will be rescheduled at a later date. We continue to evaluate if the screenings March 31st will be held as scheduled. Please note that any IEP meetings or scheduled one on one meetings with teachers and administrators will go on as scheduled, unless prompted by the parent or guardian. As well, High School graduation will continue as scheduled on May 16th. Changes have also been made in the scheduled state testing. • State testing was scheduled for our elementary students on March 23rd - April 3rd. This testing will be rescheduled for March 31st - April 9th. • State testing scheduled for our junior high students will continue as scheduled on Monday, March 16th. • Additional state testing for our junior high students was scheduled for March 17th. Dieterich Elementary students proved to their principal that they are outstanding readers! Elementary Principal Josh Benefiel struck a deal with his students. If they read more than 60,0000 minutes in February, Mr. Benefiel would allow the student to tape him to the wall. The students were up to the challenge, and read more than 80,000 minutes, earning them the victory over their principal. The challenge was part of the Reach For The Stars reading program. Well done super star readers!

Dear Parents of High School and Junior High band(marching band and flags), basketball, baseball, cheerleading, cross country, dance, scholar bowl, softball, trap team and volleyball players, It is time for the Sportbackers to begin the annual soap sales! The Sportsbackers help support students involved in junior high and high school band (marching band and flags), basketball, baseball, cheerleading, cross country, dance, scholar bowl, softball, trap, and volleyball. With the help of fundraisers, the Sportsbackers have been able to give funds to each of these groups. With these funds, they have been able to purchase items to help in practice and games. Order forms for soap sales will be sent home with the students. Please collect payment at the time of the order. The sales will take place from February 21st to March 11th, with an approximate delivery date one week to 10 days after all orders are turned in. We ask that all students involved in the listed sports/activities participate in these sales. The Sportsbackers appreciate all of the help we get from the parents, grandparents, friends, family and the community. Without your help, we would not be able to keep these sports and activities alive! If you have any questions, feel free to contact any of the Sportsbackers board members or by reaching out to our facebook page. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!! Dieterich Sportsbackers Board

Dieterich Schools are proud to be recognized as an "Exemplary" school district! But what exactly does that mean? Dieterich Schools are in the TOP 10% of all Illlinois schools. The rating is based on: % of students who meet or exceed state standards in math, science and english. % of growth in math, science and english. Graduation rate. Chronic absenteeism. You can learn more about our district by exploring our school report card at https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/District.aspx?districtId=03025030026
